MTD ITSA First Submission Review

Reaching the first submission deadline for making tax digital for income tax has been a meaningful milestone. From my perspective, there’s been a mix of excitement and the usual learning curve, but it’s encouraging to see what progress is possible with good preparation and support.

For many, especially those who adopted digital record keeping early, the process was completely digital. While for others using more traditional methods meant extra guidance and a bit more adjustment. This is where the preparation really paid off.

The change aims to modernise the tax system, reduce errors and give people a clearer view of their tax position throughout the year. While adapting can feel challenging the long-term goal is greater efficiency and fewer mistakes.

As accountants, our role is to help clients navigate that change with confidence. Looking back at this first deadline , I’m proud of what we’ve achieved with our clients.

The feedback from clients has been positive and uplifting;

Amity Accountancy made my first Making Tax Digital submission a really positive and straightforward experience. I’ve always found accountancy and tax matters quite confusing, so I was a little unsure about the process to begin with. However, Amity explained everything clearly, kept things simple and made the whole process easy to understand. Their help and guidance gave me confidence that everything was being done correctly, and I’m really pleased with the service I received.

It’s an important step in the journey towards a more digital tax system, and although there will be lessons to learn, this experience shows that with collaboration and the right tools we can adapt successfully to this significant regulatory change. I’m looking forward to building on what we’ve learned as the next submission periods approach.
